After the Dance: Convicted Felon Wallops Geriatric Patient in Telling Debate
Joltin' Joe Has Left and Gone Away
Biden did appear to be ramped up on something Thursday night, talking more rapidly than was his usual. I had predicted that his performance would be a complete belly-flop. And so, I watched in horror thinking my life as a predictive astrologer had just slipped away. In my June 21st post I said, “I shouldn’t second guess myself” after initially predicting Biden would perform adequately.
I must admit I was rather impressed with Biden’s performance. I know I couldn’t have done it. Rattling off facts and speeches, cataloging one question while listening to the next, going back to finish a response to the previous question, then returning to finish with an answer to the new question. Doing all of this repeatedly for over 90 minutes while finding a good place to deliver zingers. It was all enough to make me question the well-being of my own cognitive state.
Unfortunately for Biden, the fact is that he was visibly suffering from cognitive decline brought on by dementia. The man may have a pair of steel balls in his pants; the problem is that even though he performed adequately, against all odds, by demonstrating his ability to think and debate at an advanced level, he still got the most important question wrong. Is it in the country’s or his best interest for him to serve as president for a second term? The answer is clearly no. While he did not do a belly-flop, he did hit his head on the diving board. His mental capacity may be about as good as it was in March, during his State of the Union speech, but his tottering body and open mouthed expression belie the fact that he has entered a newer more deadly phase of decline.
