Kamala Harris was born on a full Moon. On August 19th, the first day of the Democratic convention, there will be a full Moon. Donald Trump was born on a full Moon; it was a full Moon that became a lunar eclipse several hours after he was born.

The inside wheel shows Kamala Harris’s natal chart, and there we see the Sun at 27° Libra with the Moon at 27° Aries. The outer wheel shows us the planets positions at 2:26pm on the first day of the Democratic convention; the Sun is at 27° Leo. The Moon, opposite the Sun, is at 27° Aquarius and happens to fall within a couple degrees of Donald Trump’s 29° Leo ascendant. When Donald Trump was born his natal Sun was at 22° Gemini and his Moon at 19° Sagittarius. Between the three full Moons and opposing Suns, I have just described, we have accounted for all three fire signs and all three air signs.

On August 19th, 2024 the Sun will still be in its domicile of Leo. The transiting Moon in Aquarius is lacking in any rulership; it is, however, approaching Kamala’s natal Saturn within 12˙ of arc. Her Saturn is strong placed in its domicile of Aquarius, and because the Moon is in Aquarius Saturn receives her. The Moon is in reception and is just shy of the five degree rule that would allow us to consider her placed in the all important 10th house. The Moon does, however, make a trine to the ascendant degree of 24° Gemini. On the whole I would consider this particular formation of planets to be highly auspicious. There are other striking planetary aspects on this chart. I have left Mars and the three outer “modern” planets off of the chart for clarity’s sake.

At 9am on the morning of the 19th, Venus had returned to the exact location of Kamala’s natal Venus at 17° Virgo 53˙. Opposite the Venus return is transiting Saturn at 17° Pisces and retrograde. Saturn is in the all important 10th house of presidents and prestige. Retrograde motion can show someone starting over or taking two steps back in order to go forward. This is descriptive of the chaotic circumstances surrounding her rise to power.

Transiting Jupiter is at 17° Gemini and in the malefic 12th house of incapacitation. Further, it is in the sign of its detriment and square to Venus and Saturn. The Square aspect to Saturn is almost exact at 3˙ of arc. Jupiter in detriment has been a strong central theme in the charts of all of the presidential candidates so far. See my four part election series. Here, Jupiter would seem to indicate the difficult road ahead for Kamala and the Democrats. They will have less than three months from the time of the convention until election day on November 5th.

Kamala has Gemini on the ascendant degree of her natal chart. This makes Mercury the ruler of her nativity. In her natal chart Mercury is 4° from her Sun; In the transiting chart Mercury is 1° from the Sun and retrograde. The retrograde motion is not a healthy indicator nor is the movement away from the two luminaries. These two indicators may be as much about the chaotic events leading up to her rise in power as they are about possible troubles ahead.

Finally, the two transiting luminaries are moving toward her natal Saturn with the Moon in reception, as previously mentioned. I think that it is possible she will give Trump a run for his money. If she can strike up enough excitement, she might even win. She will definitely have the establishment on her side, but she will need more than money and power to win. She will have to convince a skeptical electorate that she can be a capable leader during a time of ever mounting crises.
